IS A CHANGE OF CYCLE, NOT THE END OF THE WORLD

WAKATEL UTIW / MISTER CIRILO PÉREZ OXLAJ, PRINCIPAL ELDER OF THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF MAYAN ELDERS SPIRITUAL GUIDES OF GUATEMALA.

Given the distortions published for quite some time, through different media organizations, the National Council of Mayan Elders Spiritual Guides of Guatemala, reminds and clarifies to the world, that we are ending a period of the Sun we call Oxlajuj B’aqtun. Each B’aqtun contains 400 years multiplied by thirteen, that make a total of 5 200 years. This period of the Sun has happened before, ever since Mayan ancestors began to understand and count the time. This B’aqtun cycle will conclude on 21 December, 2012 and another cycle in time will begin.

This is the end of the fifth cycle of the Sun, hoping to receive the Sixth Period of the Sun; it is a new dawn that Mayan astronomers announced. They are also called “The Bearers of Time” and are the authorities in the spiritual and material life, as the ancestors told thousands of years ago, passing the knowledge from generation to generation. This is why the National Council of Mayan Elders Spiritual Guides of Guatemala extends an invitation to all cultures, religions and spiritual practices by men, women, youth and children, as good children of the sun, children of time. To come together in a global meditation, each from our own ways to connect with the Creator of our people, communities, organizations and families, to achieve peace and a change of consciousness, and thus improve our actions and avoid unfortunate consequences of self-destrucción that human action has been causing for quite some time.

We must generate a change of mind to feel, learn and understand that all beings who inhabit Mother Earth are brothers: humans, animals, plants and every being occupying time and space. To live together on Mother Earth, because on the earth we are born, from the earth’s resources we subsist and when w ego to our final rest, w ego to her belly to sleep the eternal sleep, as our energies continue throughout existence.

The sacred time which we are witnessing brothers and sisters, is auspicious to summon so food will not be lacking, We ask that our ancestral sedes be safeguarded and sown for the new generations, but we also demand self-determination and respect for the indigenous peoples’ territories, which are essential to ensure food safety and food sovereignty.

We demand the recognition of the economic contribution that indigenous peoples make to the nation, from different fields of work and production. At the same time, we ask for inclusion of our ideas and voices, that they might be reflected in the development and implementation of public politics, because otherwise there can’t be advancement and improvement of the living conditions of the indigenous population and other vulnerable sectors. Especially now that we are facing the drastic changes of the 21st century in technology, climatic conditions, economy and politics. It is the momento to emphasize that we must go after a national Project where we can all participate and contribute in building a better country.

Because we are all children of one Creator an Maker, may there be no more offenses between human and human against Mother Nature. The Wayeb’ that we commemorated from the 17 to 21 February 2012 is a time and space of five days to reflect and medítate from the sacred Mayan sites and from one’s own community and person, until February 22 when we will give our welcome to the carrier of the new year, starting Oxlajuj No’j and the farewell and thanks to the carrier Kab’lajuj E, for guiding us during these 360 days and 360 nights.

Our misión as Ajq’ijab’ or Mayan spiritual leaders, as messengers of peace, hope and unity, summons us and motivates us to extend a warm invitation to all different expressions of religious and ancestral spirituality, to give thanks for life and welcome the Sixth Sun cycle, according to the register and the long count calendar of time we inherited from our Mayan ancestors. Already we initiate the celebration and honoring of the Wayeb’ and welcome the new Maya year Oxlajuj No’j, while moving closer to the end of Oxlajuj B’aqtun that brings a new dawn for people to wake up and have peace, much peace and a good life for all. And rescuing and saving the practices and dissemination of ancestral knowledge and wisdom.

  1. ESTIMADOS HERMANOS:
